As of November 1, 2022, pre-purchased passes are not required for visiting Crane Beach, but are highly recommended for daily entry.

Having a temporary entrance ticket purchased in advance guarantees entry to the beach on the same day. Temporary passes are issued once a week.

CRANE BEACH PERMIT HOLDER QUESTIONS

Is there any special access for me as a Crane Beach permit holder?
Yes, in addition to increasing overall capacity, we are pleased to offer our Baker’s Pasture site to permit holders exclusively from Memorial Day through Labor Day. We also offer morning shifts (8-10am) for permit holders during the season only.

What is Baker Pasture and where is it located?
Baker’s Pasture is a sub site with quick and easy access to the beautiful Crane Beach site. Parking here is only available to permit holders from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. m. and 4:00 p.m. each day between Memorial Day and Labor Day. (The rest of the time Bakers’ Pasture is closed). To visit Baker’s Pasture with an advance ticket, follow the road signs along Argilla Road and take the first left after the main entrance to Castle Hill.

Portable potties are available, and lifeguards at Bakers Pasture Beach are only on duty on weekends. Note. Baker’s Pasture does not have access to all services and benefits. It’s a 10-15 minute walk along the beach from Baker’s Pasture beach area to Crane Beach.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS

How long will it take me to get a parking permit?
If you purchased your membership and permit online, you can use the confirmation email you receive as proof of purchase until your membership cards arrive in the mail, usually 3-5 weeks.

I don’t have a permanent membership number yet, how can I reserve a temporary admission ticket?
Between the time you purchased your membership and you receive your membership cards, you may use the temporary number provided to you when you purchased your membership. Please note that when you arrive at Crane Beach, you will need to attach your Crane Beach Parking Permit to your vehicle, or you may present your email confirming the recent purchase of your Crane Beach Parking Permit. If you do not have permission or email confirmation, you may be denied access.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TICKETS

Do I need to reserve a temporary entrance ticket to visit Crane Beach?
From November 1, 2022, visitors are not required to pre-book a time pass, but are advised to guarantee access to the beach. Ipswich residents with a valid 2022 Crane Beach sticker do not require a reservation and must park on the Town of Ipswich lot.

Why are advance tickets still required even though COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted statewide?
The trustees are committed to hosting as many visitors as possible in a safe environment at all of our special locations, including Crane Beach. Enhanced ticketing enables us to maximize our resources and ensure that we provide access to as many visitors as possible while providing a safe and efficient visitor experience.

Is there a capacity limit at Crane Beach?
No, capacity restrictions have been lifted. We are only limited by the number of spaces our parking can accommodate.

Can I ride a bike or go to the beach on foot?
Pedestrians and cyclists presenting a valid membership card will be able to enter for free. Non-member walkers and cyclists can pre-purchase a pass online or pay by credit card at the Crane Beach gate. Note: Bicycles are not allowed on the beach, including those with fat tires.

Will I be able to get a refund for a time-limited pass if I can’t?

If the trustees do not close the beach for any reason (extreme weather, emergency), time entry tickets are non-refundable. In all but the most extreme cases, Crane Beach is open rain or shine.

Does my temporary Crane Beach admission ticket also allow me to visit Castle Hill and vice versa?
No, each site has its own entry time pass and they are not mutual.

I have permission and I have booked a place, but I can’t come anymore. How to cancel?
Book a pass only if you are sure you plan to come. If you are unable to attend, please use our booking finder tool to cancel your booking so that other permit holders can attend the event. No-shows will be monitored and we reserve the right to restrict further bookings in the event of repeated no-shows.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MY VISIT

What happens when I arrive at the Crane Beach gate?
Everyone will be asked to stop and log in with the gate attendant to show a printed or digital version of the Temporary Pass Booking Confirmation. Ipswich residents’ vehicles will be checked for a valid sticker before those vehicles can enter the city’s car park.

Can I log out and log back in with the same pass?
During periods when a time-limited pass is required, we do not allow re-entry with a time-limited pass. Otherwise, re-entry is possible with a credit card receipt or a Crane Beach permit.

What are some of the property amenities at Crane Beach?
Baths are available all year round. Locker rooms, open-air rinsers, Crane Beach Shop, and self-service food and drink options are available daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Crane Beach is also home to five miles of dune hiking trails. Disabled parking, wheelchair access to the beach and an affordable shuttle from the parking lot to the beach are available.

Can I bring my dog to Crane Beach?
Dogs are allowed at CraneBeach from October 1st to March 31st. For more information, see the Rules and Notices section of the Crane Beach website.

How are Crane Beach entrance tickets used?
Entry fees help pay for annual beach and facility maintenance, public safety, wildlife and dune protection programs, and historic buildings and structures. By going to Crane Beach, you are directly helping the Reservation Trustees protect and care for this important landscape and landmark.
